Short-Term Land Tenure: A Major Problem for Urban Farmers

In the video, the owner/operator of an urban farm in Portland was talking about her farming operation. And it struck me that although her farm is a labor of love, it is also a source of worry and frustration.

Stopping the GMO Flood

Biotech companies that create genetically modified organisms (aka GMOs) would have us believe that there is nothing inherently wrong with their creations. The companies involved have gone so far as to herald GMOs as the solution to eliminating world hunger.

If that's the case, then why would a representative of the biotech industry have this to say:

"The hope of the industry is that over time the market is so flooded that there's nothing you can do about it. You just sort of surrender."

Why Listing "Sugars" on Nutritional Fact Labeling is Flawed & Should be Changed

I don't know whether you've heard about the proposed changes to nutritional fact labeling on packaged foods. But according to an Associated Press story published in January, the NFL (nutrition facts label) is coming up for its latest review. Apparently, the FDA wants to make the labeling easier for all of us to read and understand.

Well that sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?

But considering the changes the FDA has made in the past, I'm not so sure.
