A Japanese Style Approach to Whole Foods

Welcome to Whole Food Sourcing.

I'd like to suggest that you take a Japanese-style approach to your whole food journey.

Relax. That doesn't mean you're going to have to live or eat Japanese. But what I do mean by Japanese-style approach is looking at your whole food journey using Kaizen.

Kaizen is the Japanese principle of making lasting changes by mastering small, incremental steps. Think of it this way:

Imagine that there is a wonderful palace at the top of a mountain. Let's also imagine that this mountaintop is your ideal dream home location. You've never been there before, but you hear that the food is great and the living is easy and peaceful (not to mention that the view from up there is fantastic).

The problem is, the palace is so high up that you can only catch faraway glimpses of it from below, and only when the clouds ringing the top of the mountain momentarily thin.

You're determined to get to the top of the mountain, though, and move into the palace. But how? You could do it 2 ways:

  1. Hire a helicopter to fly you up to the top - expensive, noisy, will the pilot be able to land with the poor visibility, and will you be ready for what awaits you up there?
  2. Climb up the mountain - takes longer and there are many steps upward. But you only have to worry about each little step at a time. And as you do, you're building skills and knowledge of your new mountain home.

Either way, you're getting to the top and you're moving in. But can you see the value of the second approach? By the time you get to the mountaintop, you'll be fully prepared to live within your ideal lifestyle.

Your whole food journey can be just like getting to the top of a peaceful mountain retreat. You can make it as quick and painless as possible--like flying up there in a helicopter. But once you get there, then what? Will you be ready to live your whole food lifestyle? Where are you going to source all of your whole food needs? And will you have the meal planning and prepping skills necessary to make a real go of it?

That's why I highly recommend that you take your whole food journey in stages, even baby steps. Using the principle of Kaizen, you can learn where your local (and not so local) whole food sources are. Plus learning and building the skills you'll need to make your whole food journey into a wonderfully healthy lifestyle.

Here at Whole Food Sourcing, you'll find resources to help you find whole foods no matter where you live. Plus information about what to do with your whole foods once you have them, and why in the world you'd want to make the switch to a whole food lifestyle.

To that end, I highly recommend you continue to the next page in the Start Here section, namely an article called What Are Whole Foods?
